U13 & U19 Red win 1st place at Madison 56ers Spring Cup
Pre-Season Tournament Championships
The U13 and U19 boys red teams each took 1st place at the Madison 56ers Spring Cup on April 1st and 2nd. Both teams are coached by Brian Schmidt. The tournament took place at the all-turf Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells.
The U13 boys won their group games by scores of 2-1 over Strike FC Blue and 3-1 over Tosa Blue. The team was dominant in the final beating Madison 56ers White by the score of 5-2. Keaton Peters, Harsha Gaddipati, and Ryan Pfeifer all scored in the final. “Our shape was very good all weekend and we played some really good soccer. We controlled the final game from beginning to end against a team that plays in a higher division than we do for league,” said Coach Schmidt.
The U19 boys were in a five team bracket and won the tournament based on goal differential. “We turned over about half the roster from last year, so this was truly a weekend to get to know each other and see what we could do.” The team lost the first game 0-1 to Strike FC and followed that up with a strong 6-0 victory over SC Waukesha Gold. “We knew we needed a result (in the next game) against Elm Grove after dropping our first game. Our midfield shape wasn’t very good in the 4-3-3, so we switched to 4-2-3-1 and played much better. Scored on a penalty kick midway through the 2nd half and it held up,” Schmidt said. After the 1-0 victory over Elm Grove the team needed to win their final game against Milwaukee Kickers Academy Red by two goals or more to take the title. After going behind early in the game the team scored 4 unanswered goals for a 4-1 victory.
