U19 Boys in Wisconsin State Championships

Posted by PSU Communications on May 25 2017 at 12:49PM PDT in 2016-2017

The U19 boys team will compete in the Wisconsin State Championships this weekend at the USA Youth Complex in Appleton.  Only the top 16 teams in the state at each age are allowed entry into the tournament.  For this PSU team, this is their 5th consecutive year competing in this tournament.

The team qualified by beating Lakeshore United FC earlier this month in a play-in game by the score of 6-2.  Jake Mistele led the way with 5 goals in that game.  Round robin games this weekend begin Friday night at 6:00 pm with a matchup against Bavarians SC U20.  This team is made up of all college freshman who have finished their first year, many of whom are playing high level college soccer.  Saturday morning at 8:00 am the team plays NEW United Elite 1998 who are based in Appleton.  Monday morning at 8:00 am the team plays PCYS Central FC Respect who are based in the Stevens Point/Wausau area.  Both NEW United and Central FC Respect play in the Midwest Regional League.

The U19 Boys are made up of half seniors who have been to this competition many times before, and half juniors who are getting their first experience in this event.  The juniors will be asked to lead their high school teams this fall, so the high level competition is great preparation.  The U19 Boys red team currently has 2 wins and 4 losses in the State Premier league (highest level in Wisconsin).

The Wisconsin State Championships are the first round of the elite US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Winners at the state level compete in Regional Championships and Regional Winners move on to compete for the National Title. Group play for the 2017 Spring State Championships will be held at Scheel’s USA Youth Complex in Appleton, Wisconsin May 27, 28, 29. Semi-Finals and Finals will be held June 4 and 5 respectively, at Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. State Championship winners will advance to the Region II Championships to be held June 23-28 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
