State Presidents Cup Champs! Again!
Job complete! The U13 boys Red, coached by Brian Schmidt, swept the State Presidents Cup! Well done and congratulations! This makes 2 consecutive years PSU’s U13 team advanced to the regional Midwest Presidents Cup , held this year in West Chester, Ohio June 14th to 17th.
PSU sent two teams to the competition, the U13 Boys Red and the U14 Boys Red defending champions, both coached by Brian Schmidt. There were 90 teams this year in Presidents Cup making it the largest event in the 6 year history of the competition.
U13 Boys Red Wisconsin Presidents Cup State Champions!
The U13 Boys Red team, coached by Brian Schmidt, won the Wisconsin State Presidents Cup May 19th and 20th at the sCORE Complex in Racine. The event was very competitive with 16 teams at the U13 age level. Knockout format requiring a team to win four games in a row to earn the championship. “The boys played outstanding, exhibiting patience in attack and taking advantage of opportunities when given. Our defense was rock solid all weekend” said Coach Schmidt. In the first game PSU defeated Kenosha Crew Navy by a score of 3-1 on 2nd half goals from C. Grams, H. Scheiber, and D. David. In the quarterfinal the team escaped with a 1-0 win over Rush WI West on a 2nd half goal from D. Lando and a huge save in the last five minutes from goalkeeper G. Ausloos. The semifinal resulted in a 2-1 win vs. Lakeshore United Navy with goals from Ausloos and Lando. In the final PSU defeated Racine United Red 2-1 on a last minute goal by W. Bauer, and an earlier strike from A. Berlinski. “The goal from Bauer was a top class finish from 20 yards out after we had just given up a penalty kick to tie the score. We were very composed and strong in the semifinal and the final playing against premier level opposition, and that will only help us when move on to regionals in a few weeks” said Coach Schmidt.
Presidents Cup Overview
US Youth Soccer Midwest Presidents Cup is June 14th to the 18th in West Chester, Ohio just outside of Cincinnati. The boys will face state champions from Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana in the group stage. This is the 3rd State Presidents Cup championship for Coach Schmidt in the 6 year history of the tournament, and the 4th overall for PS United. Last year’s U13 Boys team also won the State Championship, giving the club the crown two years in a row at U13.
The Wisconsin Presidents Cup is the first round en route to a National Title. Winners at the state level compete in the Regional Presidents Cup and Regional Winners move on to the National Presidents Cup. The Presidents Cup is a soccer tournament designed to provide teams that do not participate in the US Youth Soccer National Championships Series, the US Youth Soccer National League or the Midwest Regional League the opportunity to participate in a series of events that lead to the National Presidents Cup Championship. Coach Rafa Dias’ U19 Boys Red qualified for the State Championships Memorial Day weekend.
The* Wisconsin State Championships* are the first round of the elite US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Winners at the state level compete in Regional Championships and Regional Winners move on to compete for the National Title. Group play for the 2018 Spring State Championships will be held at Scheel’s USA Youth Complex in Appleton, Wisconsin May 26-28. Semi-Finals and Finals will be held June 2 & 3 respectively, at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee State Championship winners will advance to the Midwest Regional Championships to be held June 22-27 at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Indiana.
